Junior Mooting Officers

The role of Junior Mooting Officer (JMO) is a reputed role within the Law Society, available to first-year students.

JMOs support the Bar and Chambers committee in organising event logistics and ensuring moots run smoothly. Additional tasks include promoting Bar and Chambers events and representing the team. As JMO, you will be a crucial member of the Team, putting on events and moots throughout both terms. The role provides an excellent opportunity for those considering taking on larger roles next year. In the past, JMOs have often used the insight they gained in the role to apply for committee positions in their following year.

Skills such as the ability to work well in a team, a good work ethic and good attention to detail are vital. We are particularly looking for candidates who can demonstrate eagerness to learn about the bar and advocacy, enjoy working as part of a team and are professional and reliable. Previous mooting experience is not required.

How to become a JMO:

  • The JMO position is open to all first year LLB students.

Registration process:

  1. A short application form will need to be filled out. Applications open following the Intro to Mooting Seminar on Tuesday 1st October. We recommend that prospective applicants attend the event to gain a better understanding of mooting before applying.

  2. Applications will close on Wednesday October 9th.

  3. The Bar & Chambers committee will interview shortlisted candidates on the afternoon of Friday October 11th.

Make sure to come meet the committee at the Welcome Fair, LLB Afternoon Tea and Intro to Mooting Seminar to find out more!
